Sitting within the Fiordland National Park in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island, you’ll find the mighty and beautiful Milford Sound. Controversially, it is not a sound but a fiord and the only one in the country that can be accessed by road. Despite this, due to its remote location and being surrounded by steep cliffs and dense rainforest, it still remains a hidden gem.

Here you can admire its towering Mitre Peak, plus the surrounding rainforests and waterfalls like Stirling and Bowen Falls. The fiord is home to fur seal colonies, penguins and dolphins so make its a great place to observe the natural wildlife.

Rain or shine, Milford Sound continues to captivate even the most experienced traveller with its beautiful surroundings, ink-dark waters, gushing waterfalls and captivating views. A popular way to see the nature and wildlife that surround this mighty attraction is via boat.
