HARI, THE LOCAL DESIGNER

Namaste and Warm Welcome!

My name is Hari. Born in a historical city of Bhaktapur, I was pretty determined from the very beginning to work in the tourism industry.

Since my childhood, I was very curious to know and get familiar with the tourists that passed by my house in the vicinity of Bhaktapur Durbar Square. As they passed by my house I would hurriedly pop my head out of the window to wave at them. I would try to greet and speak in my poor English. Of course, most of the tourists would wave back to me or take photos. I used to enjoy it.

In this way, I grew up in Bhaktapur city, learning English by talking with a number of tourists. Now I have hundreds of friends from different parts of the world. The opportunity to get familiar with the different traveller instilled me a very deep love for travelling and adventure.

I began my first adventure at 18 when I ventured out for Annapurna Base Camp. After that, the mountains never let me go away. I had the opportunity to explore almost every area including Everest Base Camp and Langtang region. I continued travelling and trekking as a profession.
Now, I am happy to find myself working as a tourism entrepreneur.

Being a local citizen, my knowledge of culture in Kathmandu, history of Nepal, geographical features of mountains along with internal political and bureaucratic system gives me the confidence to do trekking and tour in Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet.

Personally, I am of the opinion that, for Nepal tourism is the best potential economic activities. So, by developing tourism, we can create jobs for the local people using local resources. The hospitality of the Nepalese people is world renowned. The beauty of Nepal is incomparable and the history is equally mesmerizing. This gives me the confidence to make my clients happy. We assure you will enjoy a lot and feel like come back again and again to experience the wonderful ambience of good nature, people and culture.

Thank you.

Aoraki Mount Cook National Park

13:15 to 16:00
2 hours 45 minutes

Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is home to the highest mountains and the longest glaciers. It is alpine in the purest sense – with skyscraping peaks, glaciers and permanent snowfields, all set under a star-studded sky. Although it encompasses 23 peaks over 3000 metres high, this park is very accessible. Far from city lights, the stargazing here is magnificent – Aoraki Mount Cook National Park forms the majority of New Zealand’s only International Dark Sky Reserve.

Mountaineers regard the area to be the best climbing region in Australasia, while less-skilled adventurers find plenty of satisfaction with the mountain walks that lead to alpine tarns, herb fields and spectacular glacier views. Encounters with cheeky kea (mountain parrots) are part of the fun.

At 27 kilometres in length, the mighty Tasman Glacier is a powerful piece of landscaping equipment. While it slowly carves the valley sides, it provides a landing place for small ski planes and helicopters. Surreal, milky lakes are a feature of the park – suspended, glacier-ground rock sediment makes the water opaque.

Cromwell

14:30 to 15:30
1 hour

Cromwell was established by gold miners, but now its treasure is stone fruit. Explore nearby ghost towns and soak up the tranquil lakeside scenery.
Located on the shores of Lake Dunstan, Cromwell has the appearance of a modern town, but its history stretches back to the gold rush days of the 1800s. This history is best experienced in ‘Old Cromwell Town’, a feature attraction for visitors. In the 1980s and ’90s, Cromwell underwent a major transformation with the construction of the Clyde Dam power station.

When the dam was completed in 1992, the valley behind it was flooded to create Lake Dunstan. As a result, the original site of Cromwell’s historic business district at the junction of the Kawarau and Clutha Rivers now lies at the bottom of the lake.

One of the most important churches in the city, the Basilica of San Domenico, also known as Basilica Cateriniana of Siena dates back to the 13th century. However, it owes its gothic appearance to the enlargement of the 14th century.

Due to fires throughout the 15th and 16th century, a large number of features of the basilica church were destroyed; the lofty bell tower was reduced in height following an 18th-century earthquake. Home to many relics of St. Catherine of Siena, the church is situated close to the family home. At the same time as the church, several other buildings were built including the Chapter, the Old Sacristy, the Refectory and the Dormitory.

Fiordland National Park

When thinking of the dramatic landscape that characterises New Zealand so well, Fiordland National Park will fit the bill. Steep gorges, glass-like lakes, snow-capped mountains, this national park is over 1.2 million hectares in size, and from the rainforests to the fiords, each part is as beautiful as the next.

Spend your time in the national park following hiking trails to discover the astonishing variety of endemic flora and fauna that are found here, including the Takahe, a bird that was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered here in 1948. Nature here is rugged and untouched; retaining a remote feel due to the steep mountains that stop it from being inhabited.
