Pisac Market

11:30 to 12:30
1 hour

Situated in the heart of the Sacred Valley, Pisac is a must-do for any traveller visiting Peru. In addition to the cliff-clinging ruins on the mountain ridge above the town, the Pisac Market is one of the most famous in the region.

Locals gather here to buy, sell and trade their fresh and dried produce and of course, with the interest in travellers to the region, the market now allocates a large part of its stalls to tourist-orientated souvenirs such as weavings, jewellery, ponchos, hats, Andean instruments, ceramics, alpaca products and many other take-home gifts.

For a more authentic experience, visit the market on a Sunday. On Sundays, the market draws in the indigenous Quechua communities from the surrounding highlands who come to trade, buy and sell their produce ahead of the following week. The locals come in traditional, colourful dress and sit on the floor with their items for sale spread around them. If you want to leave Peru with an alpaca jumper, this is the place to buy one.

Pisac Ruins Sacred Valley

12:45 to 16:15
3 hours 30 minutes

The town of Pisac is located in the Sacred Valley of the Inca aside the Vilcanota/Urubamba River. The valley was a bountiful region for crop production and became a heartland of the religious and administrative sectors of the culture. Among the most important geopolitical bases was Pisac. The complex is divided into two parts called Pisaqa and Intuhuatana.

The terracing is expansive and is thought not to have been created for agricultural uses. Rather it has been suggested, that the entire complex was aesthetically shaped to contour in harmony with its mountain setting. The mountains were considered as deities. Beautification of the site led to it being revered and respected as God-like among the Inca people.

Today’s tour focuses on the most important Intihuatana sector, dominant in its setting atop the mountain. Intihuatana is the Temple of the Sun and Inca civilizations used it as a form of the solar clock in societal and agrarian use. The connection ton astronomy runs deep and the local Urubamba River was known as the Celestial Way as it mirrored the Milky Way from the sky. In addition, at the site, you will the altar (unsu) carved out of the mountain rock.

It is a fascinating ruin and many towers, fountains and aqueducts abound. Your guide will bring the location to life in painting a vivid picture of life back in the 14th century and how the people were guided by their unique culture and thinking. Pisac is a must-do when visiting the Sacred Valley of the Inca.

Moray Ruins

09:00 to 12:00
3 hours

Moray archaeological site is situated almost 40 kilometres from Cusco. It is a site in a beautiful setting and it is recommended that you take a trek with your guide behind the upper levels to get a panoramic view. It consists of four collocated concentric circular terraces. The original purpose of Moray is uncertain, but many studies point to its function as a crop laboratory in Inca times.

The layered terracing creates twenty different micro-climates of temperature from top to bottom. This terrace layout also allowed soil structures and drought resistance to be experimented upon. The best yields would be targeted when growing seeds, checking their performance, then allocating them to a site with the most suitable aspect in Peru.

This was crucially important as the lands of the Incan empire straddled many diverse regions from desert coast to high Andes Mountain and onward to the Amazon jungle. Potato varieties alone reach almost 4,000 and so Moray was considered a key determinant of food supply stability for the Inca. The provision of food in times of need was a key pacifier in the hierarchy of Inca
societal rule. Today your expert local guide will bring this wonderful destination to life, transporting you back in time to the Inca laboratory!

Ollantaytambo Ruins

14:00 to 18:00
4 hours

Ollantaytambo was originally a pre-Inca foundation, until the Inca ruler Pachakuti Yupanqui led forces in 1460 and subsequently subsumed as a part of the royal estates. The first Spanish conquistadors arrived in Peru in 1531 led by Francisco Pizarro. Their advance led them to assume control of much of Peru in the coming five years. In this time, the Spaniards effectively held power and the Inca ruler Manco Inca accepted this until May 1536 whereon he embarked on an attack of the Spanish garrisons in Cusco.

It was unsuccessful and he retreated to the town of Ollantaytambo. In 1537, the Spanish led an invasion into the Sacred Valley and the Battle of Ollantaytambo ensued. Manco Inca managed to inflict one of the few defeats of the Spanish and they were forced to flee. Manco again tried to recapture Cusco but was unsuccessful. Following further forays by the Spanish into the Sacred Valley, the Inca decided to seek refuge toward the deeper jungle at Vilcabamba. This small enclave became the seat of Inca power until the killing of the final chief Túpac Amaru in 1572. Your expertly guided Sacred Valley tour will include all the pertinent sectors of the ruins.

The prime destination is the Fortress at Cerro Bandolista. The setting is impressive with a storeyed construction of terraces carved into the hillside. Atop, these are crowned by the Wall of the Six Monoliths at the Temple of the Sun. Even this unfinished wall displays
stunning Inca masonry craftsmanship in the pink rhyolite stone. The guides take pride in not just directing you to the sectors of the complex but also to bring them to life.

Educating you in the practices of our ancient fore-bearers, their culture and mindset. Following on from the complex we will afford you an
opportunity to visit a local Inca house, much unchanged in hundreds of years. They still live a simple existence with rudimentary cooking and living; your mind will be transported back in time. Ollantaytambo and its welcoming people by now will have become a part of your very own heart and soul.

Machu Picchu Tour

11:00 to 15:30
4 hours 30 minute

Machu Picchu was revealed to the world, when the famous historian, explorer and archaeologist Hiram Bingham inadvertently came upon the site whilst on an expedition in 1911. Initially, the importance of the citadel was overlooked, and only when he returned over a year later the true significance was realized. Perched high up on the edge of a cliff set deep in the high jungle of Southern Peru, Machu Picchu fabled ‘The Lost City of the Incas’ is truly a first-class destination for many world travellers.

Invisible from the Urubamba Valley below, Machu Picchu lay dormant for more than 4 centuries as it sat secluded 2,800 metres (4,000 feet) above sea level. It was considered to have been abandoned by the Incas at the time of the Spanish invasion and became something of folklore and mystery until it was re-discovered hidden and preserved in the dense jungle of Vilcabamba. Today’s tour includes an expansive 2.5-hour privately guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage. Your expert guide will allow you to see all the main sectors including the Caretakers Hut, Temple of the Sun, Royal Tomb, Three Windowed Temple, Intihuatana / Solar Clock and the Inca quarry. Capturing Machu Picchu with your very own eyes is without exception an experience never to be forgotten. This tour includes shuttle bus transfers.

Machu Picchu Mountain Trek

09:00 to 15:30
6 hours 30 minutes

Machu Picchu Mountain is the most spectacular yet one of the most overlooked optional treks available at Machu Picchu. Located to the south-west of Machu Picchu citadel and towering 3,050 metres (10,007 feet) above sea level, the mountain trek offers unparalleled views of the famous In a sanctuary and panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain scenery. At its summit, Inca priests once performed rituals on special dates as well as liturgical greetings to the Salkantay Apu.

Unlike Huayna Picchu or Putucusi Mountain treks, the Machu Picchu trek is wide and well-marked. After the wardens hut, the trail follows a fairly even ascent of about 30-35 degrees in angle for about one hour. Gradually and steadily gaining altitude, the views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains become ever-more impressive. There are several views and rest points along the way. As the trail gets closer to the base of Machu Picchu Mountain, the steps become steeper, narrower and more challenging. Winding on for another 30 minutes or so, the trail passes through a stone gateway, before following a narrow mountain ridge to the summit. A small round hut provides shelter and seating, whilst the viewpoint (a few more yards on) offers awe-inspiring views of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and Putucusi Mountains. The descent follows the same route but takes about 20-30 minutes less. The Machu Picchu trek i s a moderate one and a reasonable level of fitness is required.

This morning, you’ll head out on a private tour of the city known as The Paris of the South. You’ll visit all of the main attractions and the best districts on this fascinating journey across the cultures and people of Buenos Aires. 15 2

City Tour of Buenos Aires

09:00 to 13:00
4 hours

Buenos Aires is one of the most fascinating cities in both Latin America and the world. Be it for its splendid and varied architecture, with its old Colonial buildings, French palaces and state-of-the-art skyscrapers; for its vibrant nightlife and endless cultural options; or maybe just for the rich identity of the Porteños, who proudly bear the European heritage of their ancestors, more and more visitors are coming to visit.

Visit Plaza de Mayo, the city’s foundational site and witness of our country’s political history. There we’ll visit the Pink Ho se, our Presidential Palace, the Cabildo, our primitive town hall, and the Neoclassical-style Metropolitan Cathedral, the final home of Argentina’s founding father, José de San Martín. We’ll come across sumptuous French palaces again in Palermo Chico, the area of Palermo best known for its large parks designed by celebrated landscape architects, such as the illustrious Frenchman Charles Thays. In Retiro and Recoleta, we will learn about the dream of our local aristocrats in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when they sought to build a small-scale Paris in the heart of Buenos Aires.

After visiting the impressive Plaza San Martín, where Jorge Luis Borges used to take his walks, we’ll stroll down Avenida Alvear, chosen by the world’s most distinguished brands to install their exclusive boutiques, looking up to see the many wonderful French-style palaces which nowadays house a number of embassies. Then we’ll visit the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, one of the city’s oldest churches, which dates to the Colonial era. Finally, we’ll admire the celebrated

Recoleta Cemetery, a true labyrinth of ornate mausoleums.  We’ll make a stop at Eva Peron’s grave, one of the country’s most recognizable icons. We’ll visit Puerto Madero, the latest addition to the city’s barrios. In 1991, its huge warehouses and silos were remodelled and redesigned, to finally integrate the river to the city and to create a new corporative, residential, hotel and gastronomically district, which has become the playground for the pretty Porteños and the international jet-set.

We’ll then head for San Telmo, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires. It used to be the residential district favoured by the upper class until the late 19th century when a yellow fever epidemic caused the wealthier families to leave northwards. The area was marginalized until the 1970s when many artists and artisans came to San Telmo to install their workshops. Nowadays, thanks to its amazing architecture and hip atmosphere, this ancient neighbourhood is really blooming. We’ll walk its cobbled streets, where the city’s Colonial past seems to come back to life, making a stop at Plaza Dorrego, best known for its traditional antiques fair, held every Sunday.

Leaving San Telmo behind, we’ll continue southwards to La Boca, one of the city’s most authentic and charming neighbourhoods. It is a working-class district, heavily shaped by Italian immigrants who came to our country in large numbers during the last quarter of the 19th century. Here, we’ll make a special visit to the mythical Caminito Street, which sums up everything that gives La Boca its distinctive spirit: the strong passion for soccer, the heavy presence of art and colour, and the Tango-esque atmosphere.

El Ombu de Areco Ranch – Gaucho Experience & San Antonio de Areco Town Visit

08:00 to 18:00
10 hours

The invitation is to immerse in the local environment of this historical town, San Antonio de Areco, the cultural legacy of Gauchos, argentine traditions and local craftsmen and Fine Arts. An aromatized aperitif flavoured with various botanicals (roots, barks, flowers, seeds, herbs, and spices) typically served in town bars. On arrival at San Antonio de Areco, you will take a tour of the village which includes a walk around the historical heart of the city. Then, we will make their way to the Estancia ‘El Ombu de Areco’.

The main house is surrounded by a covered gallery typical of the late-Colonial period, with a richly tiled floor and cascaded steps that lead into the gardens of the park. Presiding majestically over the park is the estancia’s namesake, the great Ombú (Phytolacca dioca), a plant as characteristic of the pampas as the baobab is of the African savanna. Nearly as ancient as well: gauchos have been hitching their horses to the estancia’s main Ombú for over a hundred years.

Once at the estancia, you can enjoy horseback riding or go for a ride in a sulky or carriage, whilst enjoying some “empanadas” and beverages. At lunchtime, you will enjoy a typical country style barbeque prepared using only the finest quality meats. Dessert is accompanied by a folk music performance, which is followed by a demonstration of gaucho skills (Horse whisper or tropillas).

Explore the 300-hectare estancia on foot or, accompanied by seasoned gauchos, on one of the 38 horses that are part of the working drove. Those that want to learn some of the thousand species of Argentinean birds are provided binoculars and guide books. Relax by the swimming pool with solarium; Play ping-pong (Table Tennis) or metegol (table football), as well as volleyball and football; Ride bicycles or just
contemplate the beauty of the Pampas. guided

JASON, THE LOCAL DESIGNER

I am Jason, originally from Ireland but now living and working in Lima, Peru. I first visited here in 2002 and ventured to the Sacred Mountain Apu of Ausangate near Cusco. Something in that magical place captivated me; the wonderful landscapes and the warmth of the people. I returned many times and now live here with my Peruvian family. My travels over the decades have brought me across Peru and Latin America. My favourite places in this ancient land are the deep Amazon Jungle, ancient Cusco, Lake Titicaca and of course the inimitable Machu Picchu. Over the years I have planned thousands of the highest quality trips. When I first make contact with a client I always have a pencil and a blank sheet of paper. The first thing I do, always, is to LISTEN. I respect each person’s individual needs and then add my expertise to create the very best itinerary possible. I still love the challenge of listening, dreaming , creating and delivering the most memorable human experiences possible. The world we live in today has many technological wonders but my aim is that you forget them when you travel here. My simple aim is to connect people back to mother nature and human nature in the most wonderful Latin American cultural adventure. “The real voyage of discovery consists not just in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” Please contact me today and together we can make your dream a reality.
