Nuremberg – the name brings to mind emperors and medieval councils, the Reformation and Albrecht Dürer, but at the same time reminds us of Nazi party rallies and the Nuremberg trials.

Nuremberg has portrayed German history since the Middle Ages, and it is impressive, fascinating, colourful, mighty, and sad. Fresh energy revitalized the city, protected by the castle, at a period when few other cities could provide such a quality of life. And this is still true today.

The Old Town is distinguished by traditional marketplaces, timber-framed buildings, and flower-filled balconies. With a population of half a million people, it’s a mid-sized city with a centre that can be toured in a day or two. The historic old town with its mighty castle and city walls, its many churches, monuments and picturesque half-timbered houses still shows the glamour of the old imperial city.

Christkindlesmarkt, gingerbread, and the traditional Nuremberg Bratwurst have made this city famous all over the world.

Among Regensburg’s most prominent architectural landmarks are the Stone Bridge, the cathedral and the Krauterermarkt square with the Collegiate Church of St. John, the Cathedral Treasury Museum, the aristocratic townhouse, and the ancient Adler Pharmacy.

Regensburg’s art scene is as diversified as its Old Town treasures. The Domspatzen, for example, is one of the oldest boys’ choirs in the world. And in the narrow alleyways of the Old Town, any number of restaurants, bars and pubs are a great place to spend the evening. Regensburg is also one of just a few cities that provides a modern retail experience in the midst of its historical history.
