Begin your day by visiting Mumbai’s most famous monument, Gateway of India. Next to it is located the iconic The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, the hotel’s original building was commissioned by Jamshedji Tata and first opened its doors to guests on 16December 1903.
You’ll continue your tour to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll then proceed to Crawford Market which is more than a century old, here you will get to see and could buy Indian spices.
You’ll then continue to the open-air laundry “Dhobi Ghat”,before moving on to see Mahatma Gandhi’s residence in Mumbai “Mani Bhavan”. On the way, you will see the Haji AliDargah, it is a mosque located on an islet off the coast of Mumbai. Giving the Taj Mahal a run for its money with its popularity, the Gateway Of India is an arch monument built during the20th century when Mumbai was then Bombay.
Facing out to the Mumbai Harbour from the tip of Apollo Bunder, the bold basalt arch was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary on their visit to India in 1911. The arch stands at 26 metres tall and was completed in 1924; for years, it was used as a symbolic ceremonial entrance to India for Viceroys and the new Governors of Bombay.
Today, overlooking the Arabian Sea, the Gateway of India is a key tourist attraction in Mumbai as well as a popular spot for locals to gather and people watch. Of course, with the buzz of people, you’ll also find a collection of food and souvenir vendors as well as boats departing for Elephanta Island in the distance.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Formerly known as Victoria Terminus, this is one of Mumbai’s most emblematic buildings. Built over 10 years during the late19th century, Chhatrapati Shivaji was the first passenger train service in India. Currently, over three million of Mumbai’s inhabitants pass through its doors every day and the terminus is the beating heart of the city.
The building is one of the best examples of colonial architecture in the country, as its construction represents a mixture of Eastern and Western styles. Dhobi Ghat

The world’s largest laundromat is found here, in Mumbai. The famous Dhobi Ghat is over 140 years old, and every day a whopping estimated 500 thousand items of clothing are sent there from nearby homes, hotels and hospital.
One of the city’s most striking sites, the ghat features seemingly endless lines of concrete washing pens, each containing a flogging stone to wash the clothes. After they have been washed, the clothes are hung up to dry above the washing area.
This labour-intensive process is carried out by the washer men, or “dhobis”, who have a system in place to effectively sort, wash, dry and iron each item of clothing. The system’s extreme efficiency is what makes the ghat so immensely popular.

DAY 3: FLY TO INDORE & TRAVEL TO MAHESHWAR
This morning, you’ll say goodbye to Mumbai and transfer to the airport for your flight to Indore. On arrival, you’ll travel 2.5hours to Maheshwar, situated on the banks of sacred river Narmada, to your hotel, Ahilya Fort Hotel. Ahilya Fort, in the central Indian town of Maheshwar, sits high above the sacred river Narmada. Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar ruled here from 1765 to 1796 and built Ahilya Wada, her personal residences, offices, and darbaar audience hall, within the fort.
In the year 2000, Prince Richard Holkar, her descendant andson of the last Maharaja of Indore, converted his home in Ahilya Wada into a guest residence, today known around the world as the Ahilya Fort Hotel.

Today, you’ll head off on a day trip to the ruins of the 15th-century fortified city of Mandu. These ruins are some of India’s finest examples of Afghan architecture as well as baobab trees, brought here on ancient trade routes from Africa. This picturesque and romantic Mandu is full of World Heritage-listed palaces, tombs, monuments and mosques. Some of the monuments worth visiting include Jahaz Mahal, Hindola Mahal, Gateways, Mandu Fort, Jami Masjid, Hoshang Shah’s Tom and Roopmati Pavilion.

Home to a richly varied past and fine architectural magnificence, Mandu is an ancient fortified 15th-century city situated in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Like a city that was passed in time, inside Mandu’s stone walls punctuated by gateways, you’ll find the impressive Jami Masjid Mosque, Hoshang Shah’s Tomb, a beautiful domed marble mausoleum, an abundance of courtyards and a stunning palace perched between two lakes. The rich architectural heritage is a testament to the part here. Most interestingly, Mandu represents the marrying of two distinct architectural heritages – Afgan and Turkish – which makes it uniquely impressive.

DAY 9: ANCIENT CITY OF SANCHI & UDAYAGIRI CAVES
In the morning, you’ll drive to Sanchi to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Buddhist stupas and learn of their significance in the introduction of Buddhism to the country. You’ll then continue to Udayagiri, one of India’s most important archaeological sites consisting of 20 rock-cut caves that are protected monuments managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. In the afternoon, you’ll return to Bhopal for some free time.

Sanchi, one of India’s many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, is home to one of the oldest surviving stone stupas in India. A fine example of ancient Buddhist architecture, the complex of Sanchi is most well known for the Great Stupa, a dome-like monument home to ancient Buddhist relics and a testament to one of India’s most powerful rulers, King Ashoka, which bought with it the rise of Buddhism.
Originally commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd Century BCE, the Great Stupa was once a simple brick structure. From the 3rd century BCE yo the 12th century, Sanchi was a major Buddhist centre. Today this grand structure sits 46 kilometres from Bhopal and is one of the best-preserved Buddhist structures along with numerous monasteries, pillars, temples and other stupas in the grounds.
