They say Madagascar is the land in a forgotten sea; Miavana is set to change all that. Located on Nosy Ankao, the largest of five islands making up the reef protected archipelago, Miavana is an earthly paradise.

Accessible only by helicopter from nearby airports, Nosy Be or Diego Suarez (Antsiranana), Miavana offers pioneering blue safaris with a focus on guiding and building a personalised journey just for you.

Each villa has its own electric buggy to traverse the island and transport you to the village and beach lounge. The main ‘piazza’ or village has many attractions from the glittering infinity pool and rooftop bar, to your choice of private dining in the beach pizzeria, lounge or Italian-inspired indoor grotto and cellar.

With one of the most sublime views in the world, it will be hard to leave the multitude of relaxing spaces and head out on one of the day’s recommended activities.

Rova of Manjakamiadana

16:30 to 17:15

Located on the highest hill in the city, the Rova of Antananarivo was the former home of the monarchs of Madagascar. Although many monarchs contributed to  the royal structures you see today, King Andrianjaka (1610 to 1630) constructed this particular Rova using rosewood, making it stand out from others in its rich hue tones.

Successive rulers continued to utilise the site, often expanding upon or replacing the royal structure to suit their needs. Finally, in 1839, Jean Laborde built the last wooden palace, which came to be known as the Manjakamiadana (“Queen’s Palace”) by order of Queen Ranavalona I. The palace was encased in stone by the Queen’s predecessor, Queen Ranavalona II, in 1869 by the British architect James Cameron.

There were seven monuments on the site including the Manjakamiadana, Tranovola, a Protestant temple and royal tombs. Along with other structures of the Rova, the Manjakamiadana burned in the fire of 1995. The Queen’s Palace is currently being reconstructed after the fire of 1995.
